Your legitimates share of a pot. If the pot contains $80, and you have a possibility of 50% of gaining it, you have the stockholders' equity $40 in the pot. This limit is somewhat of imagination since you will gain $80 or $0, but it gives you an idea of how much you can hope to gain.
