Laws Regulating Online Gambling in USA

The American online gambling market has seen some huge changes lately. At the end of 2011, the Department of Justice declared that the 1961 Wire Act (which previously prohibited payments to online gambling websites) would only apply to online sportsbetting. Now, state governments are using provincial lotteries as an example for creating gambling websites similar to online casino Canada . With the new changes made to the Wire Act, state governments are under the impression that online lotteries and online poker websites will be allowed. In Canada, provincial lotteries like the British Columbia Lottery Commission and Loto Quebec have launched their own online gambling websites, which are likely to serve as great examples for states which are now looking into launching online casinos. While there is still no federal law regulating online gambling, state governments are taking things into their own hands. States like, Illinois and New York are in the process of creating online lottery sites while Nevada and New Jersey are looking at online poker. It seems that gambling will be regulated on a state-to-state basis, so each market will have different rules and regulations. It is also likely that residents of a particular state will only be able to gamble at websites operated locally – unless a federal legislation is drafted.
